Petite Sainte-Marie is a historical variety traditional to Savoy and the Isère River valley. Genetically, it is an independent variety, although it was previously mistaken for a synonym of Chardonnay. Currently, it is classified as a rare variety, with conservation efforts underway as part of regional programs.
The variety is early-ripening and is used exclusively for wine production to create aromatic white wines. It is characterized by historical adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Alpine region and is considered promising for cultivation with minimal chemical intervention.
