Petit Meslier is an early-maturing variety with early bud break, which makes it sensitive to spring frosts. It is characterized by low yield potential and susceptibility to millerandage and gray mold.

The clusters of the variety are small, compact, and cylindrical in shape. The small to medium-sized berries have thin, firm, greenish-yellow skin and juicy, sweet flesh.

Wines made from this variety are distinguished by high alcohol content, a lively character, and pronounced aromas of apples, flowers, and green leaves. Historically, the variety could also be used as a table grape due to the good keeping quality of the berries.
