The variety is autochthonous to the Franche-Comté region; its genetic origin is unknown. The vine is characterized by an early budburst period, which makes it vulnerable to late spring frosts. The variety is susceptible to downy mildew, but less susceptible to powdery mildew and Botrytis.

Leaves are small, dense, five-lobed, dark green. Bunches are small, dense, cylindrical. Berries are small, ranging from round to ovoid, deep blue or black at maturity. Wines are characterized by a light color, moderate alcohol content, and low tannin levels.
