The variety is a red table grape, sometimes used as a dual-purpose variety. The genetic origin of the variety has not been established. In international classification, it is included in the quality standards for fresh table grapes.

The berries of the Planta Mula variety have a black color. The variety reaches maturity in intermediate terms, and research shows its intermediate degree of susceptibility to downy mildew. Common synonyms include Rucial de Mula and Valencí negro.

The variety is classified as minor and traditional, undergoing a process of scientific study and conservation. It should be distinguished from the Danugue and Bobal varieties, with which it may share an external resemblance or similar names.
