The variety is the result of crossing breeding lines Gm 6423-13 and Fr 054-64r. It belongs to the category of varieties resistant to fungal diseases and demonstrates good resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and grey mold.

A distinctive feature of the variety is that not only the berry skin but also the juice has a deep dark purple color. Piroso is used primarily in organic viticulture to provide color intensity to wines, utilizing it both as a varietal wine and in blends.
