The variety is a mutation of the white and black Piquepoul types. Young shoots possess a high degree of pubescence. Mature leaves are round in shape with five or seven lobes, a blistered surface, and a U-shaped semi-open petiolar sinus. Clusters are large, berries are medium-sized and oval.
The ripening period occurs late, approximately 4.5 weeks after the Chasselas variety, and bud break occurs 5 days later. The variety is productive, adapts well to clay, sandy, and calcareous soils, requires short pruning, and does not tolerate overly fertile sites.
The variety has low disease resistance, in particular exhibiting high susceptibility to grey mold, which requires careful agrotechnical management. It is cultivated primarily in southern regions and is also found in Spain and Portugal.
