ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety is an ancient one, presumably from Burgundy, and is characterized by medium vine vigor. The name comes from the French word for "pine cone" due to the appearance of the compact and dense clusters. The berries have a dark blue color, juicy flesh, and thin skin.
The ripening period is usually 100–110 days, but depending on the region, it can reach 150 days. The variety is sensitive to fungal diseases and spring frosts due to early bud break. It prefers a cool climate, in which it manages to develop a complex aromatic profile.
