The variety belongs to the Burgundy group. It received its name thanks to the dense white pubescence on the underside of the leaves, resembling flour dust. The leaves are medium-dissected, five-lobed, and bullate. The bunches are of medium size and cylindrical in shape; the berries are small, round, dark blue in color with thick skin.

Pinot Meunier is an early-ripening variety with moderate yield. It is less demanding than Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, resistant to cold, and prone to late bud break, which reduces the risk of damage from spring frosts. At the same time, the variety is susceptible to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and grey mold.

The purpose of the variety is wine production. In blends of sparkling wines, it provides the brightness of red berry aromas, such as cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, as well as softness and acidity. In addition to sparkling wines, it is used to produce still red and rosé wines.
