Piquepoul gris is a rare wine variety that historically originates from the south of France. Genetically, it represents a mutation of the Piquepoul noir variety with a characteristic pinkish-gray berry color upon ripening. The variety is characterized as vigorous, requiring short pruning, with the gobelet training system recognized as the optimal vine shape.

The variety belongs to the late-ripening group. The berries and clusters are of medium size, with clusters characterized by compactness. The plant shows resistance to high temperatures and drought conditions, however, it is highly susceptible to Botrytis cinerea and has moderate sensitivity to Oidium.

Technologically, the variety is used for the production of wines that possess good structure and aging potential. The name of the variety is linked to its key characteristic — high acidity, which imparts a characteristic sharp taste to the wines.
