Variety description

The variety is ancient, historically associated with the south of France. The vines are characterized by moderate vigor with upright shoots. The variety is quite productive, although prone to unstable yields from year to year. Short pruning of the vine is recommended; the variety shows the best results on dry, less fertile soils, including sandy, limestone, slate, and granite soils.

Morphologically, the variety is represented by large bunches and medium-sized berries. The leaves are medium or large, rounded, three-lobed, and medium-dissected. The variety is sensitive to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and especially to grey mold (Botrytis cinerea). At present, the variety's plantings occupy small areas of less than 100 hectares.

Wines made from this grape are distinguished by a light color, low tannin content, and good acidity with fruit and floral notes. In production, it is rarely used as a monovarietal component, more often serving as a supplement in blends.
