The variety is ancient, having originated from natural mutations, and belongs to the family that also includes the Terret blanc and Terret noir varieties. Late ripening of the grapes occurs 30–35 days after the Chasselas variety, and late bud burst allows the plant to avoid spring frosts.
The plant possesses good drought tolerance, however, it is highly susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and the European grapevine moth. Leaves are medium-sized, five-lobed. Clusters are medium to large, conical or cylindrical-conical, and dense. Berries are medium-sized, oblong, with grayish-pink skin.
Wine variety for the production of wines characterized by high acidity and a neutral taste, which are often used for blending. Historically, the grapes were also used in the production of vermouths.
