The variety is the result of a natural cross between Albillo Mayor and Benedicto. The bushes have good vigor and an upright shoot type, and demonstrate high yield. The leaf is large, five-lobed. The cluster is medium or large in size, cylindrical or conical in shape, and of medium density. The berry is medium-sized, round, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom and skin of medium thickness.

The variety can be susceptible to grey mold, downy mildew, and powdery mildew. The resulting wines have a ruby color and notes of red and black berries, which are complemented by hints of leather, tobacco, and spices during aging. Due to its relatively low acidity and moderate level of tannins, the variety is well-suited for blending.
