The Tardif N variety was discovered in 2000 in an old vineyard in the Gers department, after which it underwent a long-term recovery process. It is a hardy, late-ripening variety, maturing 2.5–3 weeks later than Chasselas and 10 days later than Tannat.
The plant possesses good resistance to fungal diseases and unfavorable climatic conditions. The late ripening cycle allows the variety to maintain a balance of freshness and moderate alcohol levels in hot climate conditions.
The grapes are used in winemaking to create red wines with intense color and spicy aromas, attributed to the presence of rotundone. It is valued for its natural acidity, which makes it a promising component for blends.
