The variety is autochthonous to the southwest of France. The bush is of medium vigor. The leaf is medium-sized, dark green, round, three-lobed and slightly dissected. The bunch is medium-sized, cylindrical-conical, dense or medium-dense.

The berry is medium-sized, round, dark blue, almost black in color, with juicy pulp and a very thick, dense skin rich in tannins. The variety has low resistance to fungal diseases and frosts down to -15...-18°C, while tolerating fluctuations in humidity and temperature. Yield is below average or low.

A wine variety for the production of red dry wines characterized by high astringency and aging potential. Due to the high concentration of resveratrol and tannins, the wines have a powerful structure and often require prolonged aging in oak or the use of micro-oxygenation.
