The variety has a long ripening cycle, with fruit transitioning very quickly from the ripe stage to the raisin stage. The vines produce small round berries with very dark, almost black skin. The yield of the variety is extremely low, and the plant itself is demanding in terms of growing conditions.

Historically, the grape was used for the production of sweet liqueur wines by the sun-drying method, but it is now also used to create dry red wines. Beverages made from it possess a deep color, intense aromas of red berries, cherry, black plum, and black pepper, as well as notes of licorice and mineral undertones.
