The group includes the varieties Torrontés Riojano, Torrontés Sanjuanino, and Torrontés Mendocino. Torrontés Riojano is a spontaneous hybrid of the Listán Prieto and Muscat of Alexandria varieties. In Spain, there are varieties genetically distinct from the South American ones with the same name.

Torrontés Riojano is characterized as a variety with a medium to medium-late maturity group and high yield. The bunches are of medium size, conical or cylindrical-conical, and of medium density. The berries are small or medium, golden-white with a waxy bloom. The variety is susceptible to gray mold (Botrytis cinerea).

The grapes are used for the production of dry wines with an intense aroma of Muscat, white flowers, tropical fruits, and citrus. The wines possess refreshing acidity, a smooth texture, and are usually consumed young, without aging in oak barrels.
