The variety originates from the Castilla-La Mancha region in Spain and is one of the parents of the Tinto de Navalcarnero variety. The grape is characterized as rustic and resistant, well-adapted to semi-arid conditions and climate change.

The variety is classified as a wine grape and is used for the production of red wines. Wines produced from it possess pronounced aromatic intensity and taste persistence, and also contain high levels of anthocyanins, flavonols, and stilbenes.
