The variety is native to the Canary Islands and is considered independent, distinct from Vijariego Blanco. Some sources identify it as a synonym for the Catalan variety Sumoll. The plant is adapted to cultivation on volcanic soils at altitudes from 250 to 800 meters above sea level.

It belongs to late-ripening wine grape varieties. It is characterized by sufficiently high productivity and the formation of large clusters. In winemaking, it is used both as a single-varietal and in blends with other local varieties to improve the structure and freshness of the wines.

Wines from this variety are distinguished by high acidity and freshness, with notes of black berries, black currant, and spices prevailing in the aromatic profile.
