The Xafardán variety is a local cultivar discovered in the Fefiñanes area on old vines over 100 years old. It is also called Tinta Oubiña, and in the past, it was mistakenly identified as red Albariño due to its visual resemblance.

This grape belongs to wine varieties. Studies of its chemical composition have shown a high level of polyphenols, in particular catechins and proanthocyanidins. Currently, the variety is being studied as part of efforts to preserve and research minor varieties for winemaking.
