The variety is a spontaneous natural mutation, first discovered in the early 20th century in the vineyards of Champagne. The maturity group is medium, arriving approximately two weeks later than white Chardonnay. The agronomic characteristics of the variety are largely similar to the original variety.
The leaf is rounded, slightly dissected, and rugose. Clusters are small, conical or cylindrical-conical in shape, and of medium density. Berries are small, rounded, and covered with a bloom of medium thickness. The yield of the variety is estimated as low.
The variety does not possess increased resistance to diseases and frost, however, it is less susceptible to Botrytis cinerea than white Chardonnay. The technical purpose involves the production of white wines, as the berry juice remains colorless. The resulting wines possess notes of tropical fruits and are suitable for sparkling wines.
