Chambourcin N is a complex interspecific Franco-American hybrid containing genetic material from Vitis vinifera, V. labrusca, V. rupestris, V. berlandieri, V. riparia and V. lincecumii. The plant is characterized by vigorous growth, high yield and a late ripening period.
Clusters are medium-sized, moderately dense. Berries are round, dark blue in color. A specific feature of the variety is the presence of colored pulp and juice, which classifies it as a teinturier variety. The variety possesses increased resistance to downy mildew and black rot.
It is used exclusively in winemaking for the production of red wines with aromas of dark berries and spices. Due to high acidity, malolactic fermentation is often used. The variety is used both for creating varietal wines and in blends, and is also used as a parent form in breeding.
