The variety belongs to the technical category, intended for winemaking. It is characterized by a very high level of berry acidity and possesses a specific aromatic profile of the wine. Currently, the variety is being studied using seed morphometry for identification and analysis of its genetic origin.
The plant was historically cultivated in the Andalusia region but suffered greatly during the phylloxera infestation in the 19th century. At present, recovery programs are underway, and scientific research is also being conducted to study its susceptibility to downy mildew among other minor Spanish varieties.
