The variety is of ancient origin from the border region between Italy and Slovenia. Genetic analysis suggests that it is a natural hybrid of the Vulpea variety and an unknown variety. The name is likely related to the Friulian dialect and refers to the characteristic growth habit of the vine with long shoots.

The plant is characterized by high vigor and high yield. The variety belongs to the medium or late maturity group. It possesses resistance to powdery mildew, but is susceptible to downy mildew. Wines from this variety possess characteristic aromas of blackcurrant and tobacco notes.
