The variety is the result of crossing Riesling with a hybrid (Seyve Villard 12-481 × Freiburg 153-39). The plant has vigorous growth and an upright shoot habit. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical, often with wings, and of medium density. The berries are golden-white in color, oval in shape, covered with a waxy bloom, and have thickened skins.

The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group with late bud burst. It is characterized by high resistance to powdery mildew and grey mold, medium resistance to downy mildew, as well as good frost resistance and drought tolerance. The variety is high-yielding, but demanding regarding soil quality and site selection.

Intended for the production of white wines. Donauriesling wine is characterized by a fruity taste, pronounced acidity, full body, and aging potential. The aroma is dominated by notes of stone fruits, citrus, and lemon balm.
