The variety is a cross of Helfensteiner and Heroldrebe. Clone We. 700, selected at the Weinsberg Institute, is a standardized vegetative progeny with defined production characteristics.

The bushes are characterized by strong growth and require green operations for canopy aeration. The variety is sensitive to drought and prefers deep, well-moisturized soils. Due to its loose bunch and thick berry skin, it possesses good resistance to Botrytis cinerea but is susceptible to powdery mildew.

Initially, the variety was created as a 'teinturier' for blending, but it is now used to create varietal wines. The product is characterized by an intense dark color, tannic structure, and notes of cherry, blackberry, and elderberry in taste and aroma.
