Variety description

The variety was obtained in 1955 by crossing the Helfensteiner and Heroldrebe hybrids. The bushes are characterized by high vine vigor. The leaves are large, five-lobed, and deeply incised. The bunches are of medium or large size, weighing from 300 to 650 grams, with medium or loose density.

The berries are dark blue, medium or large, covered with a thick bloom, the skin is thick, and the juice is colorless. The variety exhibits medium frost resistance down to –22 °C and increased resistance to Botrytis cinerea, downy mildew, and powdery mildew, but requires preventive treatments and crop load management.

The grapes are intended for the production of wines with a deep dark ruby or violet color, moderate acidity, and soft tannins. The aroma is dominated by notes of cherry, blackberry, blueberry, and plum; when aged in oak, shades of chocolate, vanilla, and leather may appear.
