The variety was obtained as a result of crossing the Castel and Abouriou varieties. It is genetically related to the Rimava, Nitranka, and Vah varieties.

The grape is a wine variety for the production of full-bodied red wines with aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, and blackberry. It requires warm, sunny sites for complete ripening.

Shoot vigor is medium, and lateral shoot formation is minimal. Young shoots have a bronze-tinted tip. The five-lobed leaf is deeply lobed and wrinkled, with bristly pubescence on the underside. The petiole sinus is open.

The variety possesses resistance to spring frosts and moderate resistance to powdery mildew and grey mold, but it is sensitive to severe winter frosts and is demanding of soil quality.
