The variety was bred as a result of selection programs at the experimental base in Cserszegtomaj. The parent forms are the Dunaj and Merlot varieties.

Bunches are medium-sized with a weight of 131–155 g. Berries are small, round, weighing about 1.4 g, and have dark blue, almost black thick skin. The taste of the berries is neutral, sometimes with faint herbaceous notes.

The variety is a wine grape; berry sugar content is 21–22 °Brix, and titratable acidity is 6.3–7.8 g/l. The harvest ripens by mid-September, which provides flexibility in the harvesting schedule for the production of red wines ranging from light fruity to full-bodied.
