The variety is an ancient autochthon that was considered extinct after the phylloxera epidemic, but was discovered and revived in the 1990s. It is a wine grape variety of late or mid-late maturity, with harvest typically taking place in October.

The plant forms small berries with thick skin. Under modern conditions, it is cultivated primarily on hilly sites at an altitude of 200–350 meters above sea level using Guyot or cordon training systems.

Wines from this variety possess an intense ruby color, good structure, high alcohol content, and soft tannins. The aromatic profile contains notes of red and black berries, dried flowers, spices, tobacco, and licorice.
