The variety is native to the island of Vis, Croatia. It was considered endangered for a long time until enthusiasts propagated it using cuttings from the last surviving vine on the island of Palagruža. In official documents, the variety is also mentioned under the names Palagružanka Bijela, Nastriženica, and Ostriženica.

The plant possesses high resistance to high temperatures and arid conditions. The grapes are characterized by good yield, and the berries accumulate a significant amount of wine acids. The wines produced from it are characterized by low alcohol content, lightness, and pronounced aromas of citrus fruits such as mandarin, kumquat, and grapefruit.
