The variety is a local variant of Pinot gris. The vine is characterized by vigorous growth and forms compact conical clusters. The berries have a pinkish or grayish-blue hue, which is why the variety is often classified as grey. In Hungary, the grape is traditionally cultivated on volcanic soils.

The wine grape variety is intended for producing high-quality white wines, which are characterized by oiliness, aromas of apple, pear, peach, and grapefruit, as well as light spicy or nutty nuances. The variety is considered mid-late and requires protection from winter frosts.
