The variety is of Greek origin, traditionally cultivated in the Thessaly region and widespread in Macedonia. The letter N in the name indicates the dark color of the berry skin.

The leaves of the variety are large, wedge-shaped, three-lobed and slightly dissected, with a corrugated upper surface and cobwebby pubescence on the underside. The variety is intended for wine production and matures at the end of September.
