The variety is autochthonous to Austria and originated from a natural cross between Traminer and St. Georgen. The berries have a yellow-green color and thin skin, which makes the variety susceptible to diseases and pests. In terms of maturity, it belongs to late-maturing varieties and performs best in a cool climate with a sufficient amount of heat.
The grape is used in winemaking to create wines with a distinct fresh character, characteristic notes of white and green pepper, as well as citrus and fruit aromas. Upon aging, the wines may acquire density, honey, and marmalade hues. The variety is suitable for the production of both light young wines and structured beverages capable of long aging.
