Cultivation
Vitis vinifera L.
The primary method of vegetative propagation of grapes, based on the high capacity of hardwood and softwood cuttings to regenerate a root system, provided that polarity and temperature conditions are maintained.
In the reference 9 varieties crop Common grape vine, where this is mentioned in the description.
Grapevines exhibit distinct polarity, where roots form at the base and shoots emerge from the upper part of the cutting. Since the crop lacks adventitious buds on the roots, the development of a new plant is possible only from a stem segment possessing at least one dormant bud. Active root formation occurs at the nodes, callus, and internodes, especially when artificial grooving of the basal part is performed.
Kilchevanie (callus stimulation) is an important technological practice that provides a temperature differential to stimulate rhizogenesis while delaying bud break. Rooting success, which varies from 21.5 to 92.1%, depends on varietal characteristics, carbohydrate content in the cane, and the physiological state of the mother vine. Using cuttings allows for a shorter juvenile period and enables the production of a fruiting plant by the 2nd–3rd year.
