Basil Fusarium Wilt

Ocimum basilicum L.

A specific disease caused by the soil-borne pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. basilici. It is characterized by infection of the plant's vascular system, asymmetrical growth, and stem necrosis.

In the reference 23 varieties crop Basil, where this is mentioned in the description.

The pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. basilici is highly specific to Ocimum basilicum and does not affect other formae speciales of the fungus. All analyzed strains of the pathogen isolated in different regions of the world belong to a single vegetative compatibility group, VCG 0200.

Initial symptoms typically appear when the plant reaches a height of 15–30 cm. The disease is accompanied by chlorosis, apical deformation, leaf drop, and the appearance of characteristic dark brown longitudinal streaks on stems and petioles, which develop a pinkish-orange mycelial coating under humid conditions.

Internal signs of infection include xylem necrosis due to vascular occlusion by mycelium, which blocks the transport of water and nutrients. Basil resistance to this pathogen is controlled by a monogenic dominant trait; however, the specific alphanumeric codes for these genes are not standardized.
