Variety traits
Brassica rapa L. subsp. campestris (L.) A. R. Clapham
There is no rigid standardized classification of maturity groups for turnip rape; it is characterized as an early-maturing crop with a specific duration of the growing season in days.
In the reference 22 varieties crop Field mustard, where this is mentioned in the description.
Turnip rape belongs to early-maturing oilseed crops, whose growing season is 12–15 days shorter than that of rapeseed and 15–20 days shorter than that of cereal crops. In breeding and agronomy, instead of dividing into maturity groups, the indicator of the total duration of the period from emergence to maturity is used, which for spring varieties averages from 66 to 74 days.
The absence of a strict division into early-maturing, mid-maturing, or late-maturing forms is due to the biological characteristics of the crop. At the same time, earliness is the main advantage of turnip rape for regions with a short frost-free period, however, the main problem remains the uneven ripening of seeds, which increases the risk of losses due to pod shattering.
