A fungal disease caused by the obligate parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae, manifested by the formation of galls on the root system and disruption of the plant's vital processes.

The pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae infects the rapeseed root system, causing tissue hypertrophy and the formation of tumors of various shapes. On a cross-section of the affected tissues, a characteristic brown-black marbling is often observed, accompanied by general stunted growth, leaf chlorosis, and loss of turgor.

To assess the aggressiveness of the pathogen in relation to Brassica rapa, the international ECD system of differentiators is used. In breeding programs, specialized CR genes, such as CRa, CRb, Crr1, are employed to increase disease resistance, as well as the method of their pyramiding to overcome the variability of fungal pathotypes.
