Diseases
Raphanus sativus L. var. oleiformis Pers.
A fungal disease caused by the obligate parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae, manifesting as the formation of galls on the root system and disruption of plant nutrition.
In the reference 6 varieties crop Oil radish, where this is mentioned in the description.
The causative agent of the disease is the slime mold Plasmodiophora brassicae Woronin, which infects the root system of oilseed radish. Swellings and galls of various sizes form on the roots, representing hypertrophied plant tissue, which hinders the uptake of water and nutrients.
External symptoms of infection include stunted plant growth, leaf chlorosis, and loss of turgor during hot weather. Oilseed radish acts as a host plant on which the pathogen actively reproduces; therefore, the use of this crop in rotations with other crucifers may contribute to the accumulation of inoculum in the soil.
Most commercial oilseed radish varieties show susceptibility to the pathogen, as specific resistance genes, such as those bred for rapeseed, are not established in them. Despite ongoing scientific efforts to map corresponding QTL loci in the genus Raphanus, resistance to clubroot is not a standard characteristic of the varieties.
