A dangerous pest of mandarin, causing damage to leaves by sucking out cell sap. It manifests as the formation of light dots, chlorotic spots, and fine webbing, leading to leaf deformation, abscission, and reduced yield.

On mandarin, damage is primarily caused by the common spider mite, although members of the Tetranychidae family, such as the citrus red mite, may also be encountered. The pest is mainly localized on the underside of leaves, where it spins webbing between the leaf blade and the stem.
Initial signs of infestation include the appearance of small whitish or yellowish dots at the puncture sites of the epidermis. As the mite population develops, the dots merge into large brown or chlorotic spots, the leaf takes on a marbled appearance, curls, and falls off prematurely, which causes stunted shoot growth.
