Fragaria L.
The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, is a primary pest of strawberry, causing leaf deformation, discoloration, and reduced crop productivity.
In the reference 7 varieties crop Strawberry, where this is mentioned in the description.
Infestation of strawberry by Tetranychus urticae manifests as whitish spots on the upper side of the leaf, which, as the pest progresses, turn into a mottled appearance, yellowing, and desiccation of the leaf blade. In cases of mass infestation, webbing appears on the underside of leaves, bushes become curled and deformed, and berries may crack and decrease in size.
It is important to distinguish this damage from that caused by the cyclamen mite, Phytonemus pallidus, which primarily attacks young tissues in the center of the crown. Resistance of strawberry cultivars to the spider mite is a polygenic trait and often correlates with trichome density on the leaf surface, which acts as a mechanical barrier to the movement and oviposition of the pest.
