Infestation of Cordyline by spider mites manifests as leaf discoloration and the appearance of characteristic webbing. In addition to the common spider mite, a specific endemic species, the cabbage tree mite, is found on Cordyline australis.

The presence of members of the Tetranychidae family is recorded on plants of the genus Cordyline, including the species C. australis and C. fruticosa. In addition to the polyphagous Tetranychus urticae, an endemic species known as the cabbage tree mite (Tetranychus sp. 1) is found on Cordyline australis.
The symptoms of Cordyline infestation appear as small, discolored puncture marks on the leaf surface, which eventually merge, giving the leaf a grayish or pale yellow hue. In cases of heavy pest infestation, the formation of fine webbing on the underside of the leaf is observed, followed by loss of turgor, subsequent desiccation, and premature leaf drop.
