For cultivation in temperate climates, figs are trained as a bush, which allows for bending the shoots to the ground for subsequent covering with agro-textiles or burlap. Restricting the root system by planting in contained pits is a common practice to inhibit vegetative growth and stimulate fruiting on current-year shoots.

Site selection requires ensuring maximum sun exposure and protection from cold winds. The crop is sensitive to excess moisture; therefore, well-drained loams or sandy loams are preferred, provided that the groundwater level is not closer than three meters to the surface.

In open-field conditions, only parthenocarpic varieties that do not require pollination by Blastophaga wasps are used. For fertilization, nitrogen fertilizers are applied in the first half of the growing season, while phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are used to ensure proper wood maturation before winter dormancy.
