Prunus persica (L.) Batsch
A dangerous viral disease of peach caused by the Plum pox virus (PPV) of the genus Potyvirus. It is characterized by the appearance of mosaic on leaves, fruit deformation, and discoloration of flower petals.

The pathogen is represented by numerous genetic strains, including PPV-D, PPV-M, PPV-Rec, PPV-C, PPV-EA, and PPV-W, which differ in pathogenicity. Symptoms on peach manifest as diffuse mosaic, vein banding on leaves, and leaf blade deformation, most noticeable one month after flowering. Fruits are often smaller, show mosaic discoloration, and ripen and drop prematurely.
Peach is characterized by a long latent period, which can reach several years, complicating the timely detection of the infection. Natural sources of resistance in cultivated peach varieties have not been identified, and there are no generally accepted resistance genes in breeding. Current research is aimed at studying the resistance of wild species Prunus davidiana and Prunus ferganensis, as well as applying genetic engineering methods.
