Light intensity and the sum of active temperatures, which determine the intensity of photosynthesis, have a significant influence, as do moisture availability and mineral nutrition, particularly potassium supply. During variety trials, breeding material is compared with standards, which allows for the identification of varieties with high stability of sugar accumulation under various climatic conditions.
