Pea mosaic viruses

Pisum sativum L.

A group of pea diseases caused by pea enation mosaic virus, pea common mosaic virus, and pea seed-borne mosaic virus. It manifests as mottling, deformation of leaves and pods, as well as general growth suppression.

In the reference 88 varieties crop Pea, where this is mentioned in the description.

The pathogens of the disease are Pea enation mosaic enamovirus, Pisum virus 2, and Pea seed-borne mosaic potyvirus. Characteristic symptoms include light green or yellow mottling of leaves, wrinkling, curling, and stem distortion. In the case of enation mosaic, specific protrusions known as enations often form on the underside of leaves, accompanied by phloem degeneration.

The PSbMV virus is classified into pathotypes P-1, P-2, and P-4, which, depending on the plant genotype, cause either classical mosaic or systemic necrosis. Resistance to pea viruses is primarily controlled genetically: the mo gene is responsible for protection against common and yellow mosaic viruses, the En gene for resistance to enation mosaic, and the sbm-1, sbm-3, and sbm-4 genes determine the response to different PSbMV pathotypes.
