The aroma of Spanish lavender differs from the classic profile due to sharp, camphoraceous, and turpentine notes resulting from a high content of terpenes such as 1,8-cineole and camphor.

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry is used for the qualitative and quantitative assessment of the Spanish lavender essential oil composition. The plant's intense camphoraceous aroma plays a role in the agroecosystem by reducing the crop's attractiveness to a number of pests, and determines its primary use in aromatherapy, perfumery, and the production of antiseptic agents.
