Rossa di Breme bulbs have a flattened shape and reach a weight of 500 to 700 grams. The outer scales are dark red in color.
The plants can be planted in the autumn; the variety is also suitable for producing greens in the period from winter to spring. The variety is a culinary specialty and is used in a wide range of Italian cuisine dishes.
In scientific research, the variety was examined in the context of studying the resistance of Italian onion ecotypes to the onion yellow dwarf virus.
