The variety belongs to the Leaf Beet group and reaches technical maturity 50–55 days after sowing. The plant has dark green, slightly crinkled leaves and thin, tender petioles of white or greenish color. The variety is open-pollinated and has a compact bush type.

The plant is characterized by frost resistance and bolt resistance. The variety is intended for multiple leaf cuttings, as it regrows quickly after harvest, and is often used in the young leaf phase for salad mixes.

Due to the similarity in the use of greens to true spinach, the variety is sometimes called 'perpetual spinach', however, it is not its botanical relative.
