The IONNA variety, also known as Bionda, is a local traditional variety of Castanea sativa, common in Italy, in particular in the Mercogliano and Partenio areas. The fruits are characterized by a porous flesh texture and high sugar content, as well as an easily detachable epidermis.
This variety is officially included in the documentation related to the protected geographical indication Castagna del Partenio. The agrotechnical characteristics of the plant are not presented in detail in open sources due to the local origin of the variety.
