The variety is an autochthonous accession studied at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. Research is focused on genetic identification, analysis of the rooting physiology of softwood cuttings, and study of the plant's hormonal profile.

In an agrotechnical context, the variety demonstrates a relatively low rooting ability. As a rootstock, Kozjak shows lower scion success compared to a number of commercial hybrid varieties.

Standardized data on maturity group, fruit characteristics, and resistance to diseases, including chestnut blight (Cryphonectria parasitica), are absent in open publications.
